The last days of internal combustion

Compared with the electronics market, automotive development happens at a snail's pace, but after years of anticipation, we are starting to see what future electric cars will look like. Nissan showed off pictures and released specifications for its Leaf electric car this week, which goes into production next year. This mass-market electric car heralds an era of new power-train technology, as it will be followed shortly by an electric car from Mitsubishi and the serial hybrid Volt from GM. At the same time, upstart companies such as Tesla and Fisker are taking advantage of this unique time in automotive history to break into the market. In fact, Tesla actually turned a profit selling its pricey electric Roadster model, and will follow up in 2011 with a more affordable electric sedan. It looks like the beginning of the end for internal combustion.
