Samsung's solid LCD; Harmony comes to PS3!

Samsung's LNB750 series outperforms the company's edge-lit LED-based LCDs in most areas, including black-level performance and picture uniformity. It also produced a better picture than any other LCD we've tested, aside from last year's LED-backlit models that use local dimming.

3D coming to Blu-ray?
The Blu-ray Disc Association has started looking to officially integrate 3D technology into the Blu-ray standard. While Blu-ray already trumps standard DVD in image quality, many consumers don't feel the improvement is large enough to justify the extra cost; 3D would presumably be another reason to ditch DVDs for Blu-ray. Panasonic works toward OLED TVs
Panasonic and Sumitomo Chemical are teaming up to develop TVs with OLED panels of 40 inches or larger by 2010. That would seem to indicate a friendlier embrace of OLED technology by Panasonic, which was touting a much more cautious approach to the burgeoning technology just a few months ago. Read more

David Carnoy Alleged PS3 Slim spy photos to cease and desist

Engadget is reporting that its Japanese site received a cease-and-desist notice from a "mysterious Chinese firm" demanding that it take down images of what may--or may not be--a new, slimmer version of Sony's PS3 game console. Engadget didn't name the firm, but if such a company really exists--and it did send out a real cease-and-desist letter--it would lend some credence to the possibility that the photos are real. Call it a one-two punch: Monday's news that HP is discontinuing its MediaSmart Connect line follows Friday's report that Linksys' line of Media Center Extenders is also on its way out. While two announcements doesn't a trend make (you need three for that), I'm hopeful that one of my consumer electronics wishes is finally coming true. We may be seeing the end of the standalone, network, digital media player. And I say "good riddance."  Read more
