Yahoo costs: The slide Microsoft didn't want you to see

Mary Jo Foley: Don't you hate when a rogue PowerPoint slide slips into your deck? The Windows Mobile-Windows continuum: The plot thickens

Mary Jo Foley: One of the most interesting question-and-answer exchanges between Wall Street analysts attending Microsoft's Financial Analyst Meeting (FAM) and company execs has been around the convergence/divergence between mobile devices and PCs.

How will Microsoft fix Windows Mobile? The Softies still aren't saying

Mary Jo Foley: I thought Microsoft officials might drop a hint or two at today's Financial Analyst Meeting about Windows Mobile 7, the company's next big release of its mobile operating system, to show that innovation really is possible in the WinMo business. Or maybe offer up a quick demo of the Microsoft "Pink" phone. But no such luck.

Microsoft does a 180: Tech testers to get a copy of Windows 7 for free

Mary Jo Foley: After irritating more than a few of its technical beta testers by telling them they wouldn't get a free copy of the final version of Windows 7 for their testing trouble, Microsoft has done a 180-degree turn. Tech beta testers will get a free copy of Ultimate, after all.

Ballmer: Ultra-thin PCs will be the answer to netbooks

Mary Jo Foley: Microsoft CEO Steve Ballmer is feeling misunderstood. Not just about why Yahoo stock tanked after the announcement of the Microsoft-Yahoo partnership yesterday, but also around the area of netbooks and how Microsoft intends to respond to their continued growth.

Adrian Kingsley-Hughes: I've been hearing from a lot of Windows 7 beta testers as to how they are feeling unappreciated. Some feel they didn't get their hands on enough code to play with, while others feel that beta testers should get a complimentary copy of Windows 7 for their efforts.
